Attempting to identify bird type traveling in the hundreds in Michigan mid-Autumn?

Today, outside of the apartment complex I state at, there were easily riled birds flocking in the hundreds moving from tree to tree as I got near them. They were making a lot of noise when all settled upon the limbs. I didn’t get a good look at an individual bird but there must’ve been several hundred all grouped together. I live in southwest Michigan and it is Autumn. Curious as to what kind of birds would behave such a way this time of year in this area.

If they’re making a huge racket – it’s almost certainly Starlings.

They migrate in ENORMOUS flocks, and can make a deafening noise when they stop in a few trees along the way.

The racket could mean starling, but there are a lot of birds beginning to migrate right now (Michigan is a main fly way for them). Starlings are a fairly large black bird, which also might help you identify them.
I also live in Southwest Michigan, but I haven’t seen starlings here yet. I have seen two pair of cranes in the last week, though.
