This is Chook, our male Superb Lyrebird at Adelaide Zoo. We’ve had a lot of construction going on lately and Chook has picked up many of the sounds.
You can find out more information on Chook and download free Chook ringtones here: http://tinyurl.com/n42w79 .

We think we can hear the following sounds:
1. Hammer
2. Chainsaw
3. Jack hammer
4. Lawn mower hitting sticks
5. Leaf blower starting
6. Power drill
7. Wood saw
8. Human voices
9. Two-way radio
10.Worker whistling
He makes lots of different bird calls as well. What can you hear?

“AMOY HOL-15-1″
Video of an American Oystercatcher (Haematopus palliatus) promptly resuming incubation of its egg after a camera is discretely positioned by a Rutgers researcher under Thomas Virzi, Ph. D. The bird maintains vigilance over the nest, keeping nearby willets at bay (4:04 - 4:35) and later leaving to distract the oncoming researcher.

Note the orange bands on the legs marked “C4″ used for individual Bird Identification for ecological research purposes.

The oystercatcher in this video was discretely monitored to avoid jeopardizing nesting success. This video is for educational purposes, depicting the research subject of a university ecology research ociate. Please avoid disturbing wildlife during the vital stages of nesting.

“Of all birds, these are the chief carnivores; most hunt down living prey. Owls are highly specialized, with superb eyesight and hearing. Most, like the Long-eared owl, are nocturnal, but some, such as the Short-eared owl, are also active by day.

Birds of prey hunt by day. Both groups of birds have acute vision, powerful legs and feet armed with sharp talons for catching prey, and strong, hooked bills for tearing it up. Superb fliers, many remain perched for hours between feeding forays, while others are far more aerial, spending much of the day aloft.” RSPB Description.
