Video of an American Oystercatcher (Haematopus palliatus) promptly resuming incubation of its egg after a camera is discretely positioned by a Rutgers researcher under Thomas Virzi, Ph. D. The bird maintains vigilance over the nest, keeping nearby willets at bay (4:04 - 4:35) and later leaving to distract the oncoming researcher.
Note the orange bands on the legs marked “C4″ used for individual Bird Identification for ecological research purposes.
The oystercatcher in this video was discretely monitored to avoid jeopardizing nesting success. This video is for educational purposes, depicting the research subject of a university ecology research ociate. Please avoid disturbing wildlife during the vital stages of nesting.
