Bobby is a burrowing owl from the Audubon Center for Birds of Prey in Maitland, FL, and he’s cute as can be. he’s 11 yrs old (very old), was attacked by a dog (missing parts of both wings) and has arthritis. if you listen real close, you can hear him squawk near the end…

The Owls are birds of prey. Most are solitary, and nocturnal, with some exceptions (e.g. the Burrowing Owl). They are classified in the order Strigiformes, in which there are over 200 extant species. Owls mostly hunt small mammals, insects, and other birds, though a few species specialize in hunting fish. They are found in all regions of the Earth except Antarctica, most of Greenland, and some remote islands. Though owls are typically solitary, the literary collective noun for a group of owls is a parliament.

We spent 2 memorable days this summer out bird ringing with Geoff Sheppard, local bird ringer and secretary of the West Galloway SOC. Geoff has many Barn Owl nestboxes, most made and put up by himself around The Rhins of Galloway. By the end of this summer 2007 he will have ringed approx 200 Barn Owl chicks.
