what types of bird of prey are found in cities. There is one in our garden and i don’t know what it is?

It is brown but i never get a good look. Plz help

There are Falcons, Hawks, Kestrels, and so on. I have done some research a while back about the popular nesting and feeding areas of birds of prey in my area. There are many in the city. You will find red tail hawks and harris hawks (if you live in the southwest) in the suburb areas, and more falcon types in the big cities. There have been Peregrines as well as kestrels and Coopers Hawks in the big city near me. Burrowing owls are a popular sight at my school, as they like to hide in the drains. But where you live as in what part of the country also helps when looking for predatory birds. As you can tell here, I am from the southwest with my many sightings as birds such as the burrowing owl and the harris hawk.

There is The Sibley Guild to Bird Life & Behavior, The Sibley Guild to Birds, (both large) , and Sibley’s Birding Basics. I got all three in set. Love them.

what do the House Finch birds eat?

House finches eat seeds, grains and berries, like other birds with finch-like beaks. In the wild, they love nettle and dandelion seeds. You can attract them to your feeder with sunflower seeds.

Why are some bird feathers illegal to have, even if you found it on the ground?

I know Native Americans can legally keep certain bird feathers like an eagle’s, but why is it illegal for others to have and keep the feathers of certain types of birds, even if they found them?
I don’t understand nor see the harm- after all it’s off the bird for good!

It is illegal to a have ANY feather of ANY native bird in the US in your possession. This is stated in the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. The reason is if someone has feathers…how can you prove you did not kill the bird to acquire them?? You really can’t. If it was legal to own them..many people WOULD kill birds to get them.

John P…I am not speaking of birds that people have a license or permit to kill such as game birds DURING hunting season. Obviously…the feathers would still be on the body in their possession. I just want people to know that they are not even supposed to pick up feathers off the ground. This is illegal..where I live people have actually been charged with having feathers that they picked up off the ground.

Type of endangered bird? (Identification help)?

I was watching an episode of The Most Extreme the other day, and I remember seeing a cute little black bird they were talking about. I don’t know the name of it though.
The episode was 72, Bodysnatchers, and it was in the section with the cuckoo, because the way they saved these birds from near extinction (there were only five at the time scientists came in) was by putting their eggs in other birds’ nests. I think the bird lived in New Zealand.

Does anybody know what the name of the bird is? (A picture link would help, seeing as I remember what it looked like.)

Was it the chathem island black robin.

Are there any bird friends I can get for my African Grey?

What would be the best bird friend for ym African grey Parrot?

Do other types of birds get along with greys?

Such as cockateils for instance?

Would my grey eb upset if his friend dies before him, cause cheaper birds dont live as long and I dont want to dish out another thousands fo dollars for another grey or parrot.

Is there any cheaper bird that lives as long as grey’s do?

Would they get along?

I want a bird friend for my grey!!!

Would I need to get my new bird a new cage or can the two share the cage?

My grey currently has a cage big enough for two or three greys.

It’s really long.

An African Grey gets along with only another mate. However if your bird has already ‘bonded’ itself to you or another member of the family, (it’s very easy to tell because it’ll LOVE that person to bits) then it will not bond with any other person or bird.

An African cannot live with another species of bird or parrot indefinitely and even during brief encounters, must be supervised.

It feels the cage belongs to it. Putting in another bird will most surely result in bloody fights amongst the two birds.

Parrot owners who have multiple birds ensure they havea cage for each bird, unless the birds were raised as chicks together and have shown no signs of aggression.

You want a friend for you grey. But what does your grey really need? What it really needs is an owner who will devote more time and attention to it. Putting another bird into that cage is not going to stop his bad habits from developing.

How can you catch zebra finch birds that were outside in their cage but got out?

The wind blew the cage over and they flew out. How can I entice them back into their cage?? or is all hope lost of catching our feathered friends.

You can try leaving the cage outside, leaving your zebra finch’s favorite treats and food outside, and playing music of other finches to attract your finches back home. If this doesn’t work, you’ll need to inform your neighbors, place an ad in the newspaper, and/or place flyers around where you live to let everyone know you have zebra finches missing. Next time, make sure your cage is securely shut, it’s not windy, or don’t take your zebra finches outside. Also, I recommend staying close to your finches so this kind of problem doesn’t happen.
