How to keep a wild robin?

Posted by admin

I found a injured robin bird. It is blind in both eyes. They are completely gone. The bird can’t fly. We want to try and keep it for as long as we can but we don’t know how.

Commendable, but unfortunately it is illegal for you to keep it without a permit. Robins are protected by the migratory bird act. It probably needs some medical attention as soon as possible, the best thing you can do for it is to get it to a licensed wildlife rehabilitator as soon as possible. Call your state wildlife agency -if they are unavailable because of the weekend, try your animal control or shelter, or see if there are any rehabilitators listed in your area. Time is critical, it is unlikely you can get it to eat, or can feed it properly.
Until you can get it help, put it in a cardboard box (poke a few holes if you are worried about air) and put it in a very quiet place that won’t get too warm or cold. Then resist the urge to check on it frequently-that causes a lot of stress, especially for an injured wild bird, and can cause it to die even if it weren’t hurt as badly as you describe. Don’t try to feed it or give it water, it probably is too stressed to eat anyway, and people usually do more harm than good when they try to feed injured birds.

What are some birds from a forest?

Posted by admin

In a regular forest, like just a large patch of woods somewhere, what’s a list of different kinds of birds that would live there. NOT a Rainforest. Kinda like a finch, starling, chickadee, robin, birds like that.
Thank you so much :) Oh, and please put this in a list. Sorry I’m being so picky…

nuthatch, red breasted grosbeak, purple finch, yellow finch, junko, blue jays, woodpeckers, flicker, robin, blue bird, chickadee, black birds, grackel..plus many many more!

I’ve been looking into adopting a new pet lately, and I’ve always loved robins. I’ve tried googling the answer to this question, but the google results always bring me to useless websites about Red Robin restaurants and buying shirts and hats with robins on them… -sigh-

You can’t keep a native bird as a pet in the United States. Its a violation of the migaratory bird act of 1918, which includes most of the native avian species found in North America (roughly 800) The only birds you can keep are introduced species: House Sparrow, Rock Pigeon, and European Starling.

my mom lives in south carolina has for yrs this is the first time anything like this has happened. easily 50 if not more red robins like i said above, any meanings for this or beliefs?
so with it actually snowing down there (it usually doesnt) that could affect them to possible migrate to her home?

We have loads of them down here in Florida, too. It’s BRRRRR cold up north and they are still workin’ there way south to warmer weather. She probably has some good eatins’ in her yard as well:-)

I have a wild robin that was injured and recovered but cannot be returned to the wild. He’s in a beautifulset up and on a great diet. Sometimes I think he’s lonely. What other bird would I be able to put with him?

Robins are Not a sociable bird to other species and "Will Kill" others not of their species ,best take your bird to a rescue centre where they have plenty of space in outdoor aviaries for such cases.

These birds built a nest on the porchlight. I always see a robin sitting on it. Well the other day, my mom says she saw a little bird that was blue with white under the wings sitting on it. What kind of bird might that be? And why would a bird other than the one nesting sit on that nest?

It is true Robins will build anywhere. The other bird sounds like a Blue Jay not sure I need to see the bird. They will eat other eggs from other nest. What might have happened is the Blue Jay took over the nest.

I just found a web site about birds there is a link to Identifying I hope this helps.

we had that same problem at our house except with a raccoon. while the other raccoons would be gone as soon as my dog steps out the door but one did not my dog caught and let it go ready for a chase but it just stood there. my dad called animal control and they caught they found out it had rabbi es and was trying to some long word i do not remember.

I have a tree that Japanese Beetles are devouring. Normally we just spray the tree with chemicals, but my husband noticed a robins nest and her babies in the tree. (They just hatched within the past 3 days) We don’t want to spray the chemicals and kill the birds yet we don’t want our tree to die. Someone suggested covering the nest with a tarp and then spraying, that won’t be easy at all. So I don’t know what we can do! Please don’t suggest to just spray and ignore the birds and we can’t move the nest either. The mother won’t come back then. Thanks so much.

you might be able to find a strain of Bt from a nursery that will effect beetles… or use one of the pyrethroid class of insecticides and just be careful around the nest area… what I use professionally will be stronger than what you will get at the home depot type store and I have never had a customer report a bird death even when I find the nest with either newly hatched or just eggs after spraying it during my service.

I am a small time rapper living in the UK and my problem is that I love looking at the birds eating crumbs on my bird table but, despite their lovely plumage and pretty singing, they just don’t look ’street’ enough to be hanging out in my yard. I’ve tried hanging little alarm clocks around their necks but they always fly away. Please help
