Can a finch bird eat guava?

Posted by admin

I read in bird book that they can, but they’re all seed on the inside! and I’m worried that the seeds might be bad if my finch eats one of them.

Yes, finches can eat guava. Guava is very nutritious and contains vitamin C, fiber, vitamin A, and folate. You can mix the guava with other fruits and make a tasty salad for your birds. Never feed your finches any seeds from any fruits as they are toxic.

what do the House Finch birds eat?

Posted by admin

House finches eat seeds, grains and berries, like other birds with finch-like beaks. In the wild, they love nettle and dandelion seeds. You can attract them to your feeder with sunflower seeds.

The wind blew the cage over and they flew out. How can I entice them back into their cage?? or is all hope lost of catching our feathered friends.

You can try leaving the cage outside, leaving your zebra finch’s favorite treats and food outside, and playing music of other finches to attract your finches back home. If this doesn’t work, you’ll need to inform your neighbors, place an ad in the newspaper, and/or place flyers around where you live to let everyone know you have zebra finches missing. Next time, make sure your cage is securely shut, it’s not windy, or don’t take your zebra finches outside. Also, I recommend staying close to your finches so this kind of problem doesn’t happen.

I would like to attract more finches and small birds and less Starlings and big birds.

Thistle seeds, niger seeds, and canary seed are all excellent for small birds like finches. They will also eat suet and fruit. Black oil sunflower seeds are a favorite of many birds and will attract finches, but will attract the bigger birds, too. Also, make sure you have a water source nearby so that the finches can bathe or drink. Finches like to eat from tube feeders, sock feeders, and hopper feeders. You should be seeing more finches and smaller birds soon.

There are birds in a local store that my friend works in… They fly in and make nests there because it is warm. It’s a twenty-four hour store, so they close down the store and hire someone to come in and BB gun the birds to get rid of them. This seems really wrong to me. They are just little finch looking birds and while I know they need to get rid of them, having them killed seems illegal or something. Is it?

It depends on your state.

As an example, the Department of Land & Natural Resources Wildlife Division (State of Hawaii) requires that you possess a permit for the trapping or euthanization of any birds.

Check with your States DLNR for local laws.

I have 3 baby finches, about 1 week old. The parents aren’t feeding or sitting on them anymore. I’ve decided to hand feed the tiny birds, but i have no formula and the shops are closed. please answer!

Is this a good recipe?

1 boiled egg (mashed up)
shell grit (in powder form)
bread soaked in water
seeds (in powder)

The above ingredients would be mashed together
thank you!

Keep them warm - you want to make the mixture very watery - Pedalyte would be best to prevent dehydration - I think it better to feed the little guys — a grain based baby cereal with pedialyte until the morning when the shops open would be best

I got two birds, (zebra finch) and i can see they are ready to make nest and everything, well according to wiki i need to get a wicker nest the size of a orange and attach it on the cage i basicaly know how but, my question is,where do i get such a nest? Thanx.

Most pet stores will have either a wicker pre-made nest, or materials for the birds to make it. But i think the materials are more for stimulation, which finches don’tnecessarilyy need as much. So wicker is probably the best. Get that at a PetCo or Petsmart or your local pet store and you’ll be set. You may want to get some bedding while your there, ask an employee or just grab it. If they don’t have it, I wouldn’t worry about it. Good luck with your finches!

I wanna be able to hold em’ and stuff.
Like I dunno which one to get..
Help?

The person who said rats are nasty and will steal your food is just plain ignorant. Rats are one of the most loving, intelligent, and clean animals you can have. They LOVE to be held and cuddled and can even learn tricks like a dog. I suggest getting a rat if you want to have a companion animal…they make excellent pets and are so much fun! There are hundreds of websites devoted to rat care that im sure would be very helpful to you.

Good luck in decision!

my zebra finch doesnt eat the cuddle bone (its new) and i want to kno if i scrape the "calcium" off the bone and put it in the water…will that be ok?

I would boil some eggs, remove the shell, and crush up the shell. Give that to your zebra finch for calcium. Don’t scrape the cuttlebone and put it into your finch’s water. That will cause bacteria to accumulate and can make your zebra finch sick.

it looks like this: http://loudounlandscapes.com/pastoral/uploaded_images/FinchDogwood-778295.jpg

how can i nurse it back to health

i put grapes and bird seed in a shoe box with it

what do i do to help the poor thing :’( ?

That is an American Goldfinch.

Please take it to an animal rehabilitation center right now! Find one at http://www.tc.umn.edu/~devo0028/contact

Good luck!

You cannot keep it for over 48 hours; it’s illegal. Provide water and grapes are fine.

Keep dogs and cats away from it please.
